Environment Canada is warning Ottawa Valley residents to brace for a sudden snowfall that could affect travel along local roads.
The agency says that 4 to 8 centimetres of snow are on the way starting Tuesday afternoon and through the evening at a rate of up to 2 centimetres an hour at its peak. Snow will begin to switch to rain later Tuesday evening and into the overnight hours, with some places over higher terrain remaining in snow.
Warmer surface temperatures should keep much of the snow from accumulating on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots, but those surfaces could still become icy and slippery.
Environment Canada is asking you to be prepared to adjust your driving as road conditions change and to take extra care when walking and driving in affected areas.
If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.
