After moving to the Ottawa Valley from BC, Teresa Wittig purchased the farmland just four years ago and almost right away, began sharing her love of horses. She operates Spirit Valley Ranch, a high-class horse stable in the area. Teresa tells myFM that she doesn’t get to go on vacation very often, but the stable is not a job for her – it’s more of a passion project. When she’s not caring for the horses, such as washing and feeding, she does all the farm chores. Bailing hay is a constant task for instance. Spirit Valley Ranch has a big indoor arena that she rents out mostly during the winter when conditions are not suitable for rising horses out in the open. Teresa also rents stalls on weekends and for other events such as teachings. When it comes to breeding, Teresa did have a stallion that she bred for many years, but she has since sold him. However, she did keep his son for possible future breeding opportunities. In closing, Teresa has some words of wisdom for anyone looking to get into a stable business. She says it’s a lifestyle and not a hobby.
