Traumatic news came on World Press Freedom Day, but Eganville Leader Publisher Gerald Tracey got a super sixty-ninth birthday present Wednesday when it was confirmed the venerated weekly had solidified a deal with a new printer to keep the presses running.
Tracey says there were closer choices, but the new deal seems like a perfect fit for the two Valley papers that will share transportation costs with several periodicals in Ottawa.
The Montreal firm will begin printing the Eganville Leader with its June 8th edition.
The Leader publisher says when the news broke that the paper’s former printer, McLaren Press Graphics in Bracebridge would be winding down its operation at the end of May, concern for the Eganville paper’s fate went viral.
As one printer closes, the new one comes aboard- making for a seamless transition for the Eganville Leader and its readership.
Happy birthday, Gerald!
