The Petawawa Centennial Family Health Centre (PCFHC) has secured new funding and has brought a pediatrician to the area.
The PCFHC Board Director Keith Greenfield says the timing works out great because another pediatrician who was serving the area from Ottawa retired back in January and this will help fill the gap.
Greenfield says Dr. Jay Dahman works out of Toronto and flies to the Pembroke and Area Airport on a weekly basis to provide care to residents in the area one day a week.
Judy Hill, the Executive Director of the Petawawa Centennial Family Health Centre, says thanks to a pilot program with Ontario Health, the services of Dr. Dahman are available to all residents across Renfrew County. As a member of the primary care network in Renfrew County, Hill says she is able to use a distribution list to let other doctors know his services are available.
Hill says with 40 percent of the population in Petawawa under the age of 16, having a pediatrician is important.
Greenfield says through connections with Garrison Petawawa, Mayor Bob Sweet was able to link Dr. Damon with the Family Health Centre.
A $10,000 cheque presentation from Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet took place on Monday night (May 9th, 2022) that will help pay for medical resources at the facility on Civic Centre Road.
