Environmental Days with the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre are back after a two year cancelation due to the pandemic. On these special days, residents of Petawawa, Pembroke, Laurentian Valley and North Algona Wilberforce can drop-off hazardous and electronic waste at any of the three events for no charge.
Acceptable hazardous waste includes batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, oil, paint, propane cylinders and pesticides. Materials must be in the original or well-marked container to indicate the contents. Containers must be properly sealed with no leaks. Commercial or unlabeled/unidentified products cannot be accepted. Acceptable electronic waste includes cameras, DVD players, computers, laptops, monitors, TVs and video game devices and consoles.
Environmental Days run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates: May 14, Petawawa Civic Centre, June 4, Pembroke & Area Community Centre (Pem Ice 2, enter off Boundary Road), August 20, Rockwood Public School. Hazardous and electronic waste is also accepted year-round at the Centre’s permanent depot at 1076 Woito Station Road, during regular operating hours, Monday to Saturday.
