Delays can be expected this summer along Petawawa Boulevard.
The County of Renfrew is planning rehabilitation of the Petawawa River Bridge.
$1.2-million has been budgeted for this project.
Construction is expected to begin sometime in late May or early in June with work wrapping up near the end of October assuming everything remains on schedule.
A report presented to county council shows work will be completed in two stages to minimize traffic impacts and maintain one alternating lane of traffic over the bridge.
A report presented to county council on Wednesday morning (February 23rd, 2022) shows stage 1 of the project will require closure of the west (southbound) lane of the bridge with pedestrian traffic maintained on the east sidewalk.
Stage 2 of the project will require closure of the east (northbound) lane and east sidewalk of the bridge.
As only a single sidewalk is present, pedestrian access over the bridge will be maintained using a temporary walkway.
Director of Public Works and Engineering for the County of Renfrew, Lee Perkins, told members of county council there will be message board signs used many weeks ahead of construction starting to let people know about the delays.
Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet says it’s nice to see work moving ahead, but notes going down to one lane of traffic will cause significant delays.
Acting Manager of Infrastructure for the County of Renfrew, Taylor Hanrath, says the rehabilitation of the bridge will include, scarification and overlay of the concrete deck, sidewalks and curbs, various minor concrete repairs, replacement of deck waterproofing, expansion joints, approach slabs, and pavement on the bridge and approaches.
