An Ottawa Valley native and a former member of the Pembroke Lumber Kings is heading to the Beijing Olympics next month. 18-year-old Mason McTavish was the youngest player named to the Canadian men’s team by Hockey Canada. McTavish was drafted third overall by Anaheim in the NHL entry draft last summer and played nine games at the start of the NHL season, scoring his first NHL goal in his debut on October 13th. It’s not the first time Mason has been on the international stage. McTavish was a member of the Canadian U-20 team at the World Junior Championships being held in Alberta between Christmas and New Year’s and had an impressive three goals and two assists in the team’s two wins prior to the tournament being canceled due to COVID. The Canadian men’s hockey team will play their first preliminary round play in Pool A against Germany on February 10th, followed by a game against the USA on February 12th.
