UNION REP NOT CONFIDENT STRIKING MEMBERS WILL VOTE IN FAVOUR OF LATEST OFFER

Don't look for striking OPSEU workers to vote in favour of an offer from Ontario's College Council. The labour dispute is into its fifth week, and Pat Kennedy, a member of the union bargaining team says he is perplexed about the employer strategy.

Kennedy says he expects his membership will vote against the College's proposal, but workers will cast ballots this morning (Tuesday) until Thursday morning. The OPSEU representative says the government-appointed mediator could then ask both sides to return to the negotiating table, but it is more likely that Queen's Park will approve back-to-work legislation to end the dispute. He sympathizes with student frustrations at the lengthy interruption of classes.

Kennedy says he is grateful for the support of students and the general public who have not been bamboozled by what he terms misinformation coming from the College Council.
