JOINT TRAINING EXERCISE EXAMINES RESPONSE TO AIRPORT EMERGENCY

What would happen if there was ever a fire at the Pembroke Airport? That was the subject of recent training with Petawawa's Fire Department and the Garrison's Fire Department. Petawawa's firefighters went on base last month, where they were briefed about aircraft related emergencies, and familiarized themselves with Garrison's crash trucks. There was also training involving live fire where the crash truck was used to put it out. In the case of a real emergency at the airport, it is technically the responsibility of the town's fire department, but Garrison fire fighters have specialty training that the town's force doesn't. Since that's the case, the base's department would lead the firefighting with support from the town force. Petawawa council was given an update on this training at Monday's committee meeting.
